The company is located on a 5 acre site in Bicester and has production volumes in excess of 20,000 tonnes per annum. British Bakels supplies commercial bakeries and other food manufactures with high quality ingredients.

Challenge
British Bakels required a system that would simplify production of hundreds of raw and finished goods ingredients whilst enabling consistent quality and compliance to food hygiene standards and trade accreditation schemes. The system had to be capable of dealing with the sheer scale of volume and variety [a Plc solution was evaluated and found wanting] and a bespoke solution was to be avoided.
Solution
Wonderware InBatch Software took schedule information from the company's MRP system to produce step by step production instructions for operators and automation controllers. Advantech Touch Screens were robust to withstand the plant environment. Wonderware InTouch HMI software provided the visualisation of the production lines operators needed.
Implementation
EmsPT consultants worked with British Bakels and Stratos Control Systems Ltd to deploy a standard solution. The InBatch software produces carefully controlled sequences to ensure error free handling of the vast combinations of ingredients and consistent quality when scaling up from the test laboratory conditions to high volume manufacture. The system has met the company's accreditation and compliance requirements.
